The UK Mining Conference in Cornwall, held last week at the historic Princess Pavilion in Falmouth, concluded after two days of insightful sessions and networking.
High-profile delegates included investors, brokers, operators, and key players from the mining supply chain. The event offered an excellent platform for networking and presentations to an influential audience, and attracted significant interest due to the UK’s active mining sector and Cornwall’s prominence.
The Geo-Resources Cluster project sponsored tickets for representatives from organisations including Hydrogeology Consulting Ltd, Geolithical Limited, Westcountry Minerals, EGS Energy Ltd, North Coast Consulting Ltd, Future Terrains International Ltd, Women in Geothermal, Geothermal Engineering Ltd, and Mammoth Mining Limited.
Feedback from these participants highlighted the event’s success in facilitating business contacts, potential future collaborations, and building relationships with local businesses and connections across industries nationally.
Dr. Aleksandra Zawalna-Geer, Geo-Resources Cluster Project Manager, presented at the conference, emphasising that Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly are key to industrial strategy, highlighting the 130+ geo-resources businesses and services of the Cornwall Mining Alliance. The presentation noted the Geo-Resources Cluster Project aims to elevate the Cornwall Mining Alliance cluster to the next level; to create a self-sustaining cluster body that fosters a thriving and resilient Geo-Resources Sector, positioning it as a global leader in sustainable and responsible geo-resources management.
The conference addressed the global demand for technology metals such as lithium, copper, tin, tungsten, and cobalt, along with minerals essential for food production, housing, and infrastructure. Presenters highlighted the UK’s pivotal role in meeting global resource needs, driving economic growth, and championing sustainability.
The participation of these businesses and the project exhibit stand at this event was funded by the Geo-Resources Strategic Sector Strengthening project, which is a partnership between the University of Exeter, the Cornish Chamber of Mines and Minerals and Cornwall Mining Alliance. This project has received £960k from the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. The UK Shared Prosperity Fund is a central pillar of the UK Government’s Levelling Up agenda and provides £2.6 billion of funding for local investment by March 2025. The Fund aims to improve pride in place and increase life chances across the UK by investing in communities and place, supporting local business, and people and skills.
