In the February half term 2025, a STEM camp was held in Bodmin for 17 local year 8 students with an interest in science, geography, earth sciences or geology to demonstrate the potential career pathways available to them within the Geo-Resources industry. This is inpart to help try and tackle the reduced uptake for geoscience disciplines in further and higher education.
The STEM Camp included teaching, practical activities and site visits to Imerys British Lithium’s Pilot Plant to show how the principals they’re being taught apply to industry. These sessions were support by STEM Ambassadors, including staff from Cornish Metal’s and Wardell Armstrong, and the staff at IBL. Thanks also goes to Wheal Martyn for their assistance on the Thursday afternoon.
In addition to developing the understanding of young people this camp has helped to develop school-industry connections in addition to other events and the materials produced can be re-used in the future to help promote Geo-Resources careers once they’re distributed to schools.
