The protection of mineral interests in Cornwall and Devon is the mandate of the Cornish Chamber of Mines and Minerals (CCMM). The CCMM advises on minerals and planning policy and promotes best practice. The body is a respected voice for the sector. The CCMM and the CMGA work closely together to improve industry awareness and promote the wealth of expertise in the region.

David Mildren
CMGA Director
David is a Director at Gravity Mining Limited in Blackwater. He is a proud Cornishman, who started his career as a Design Engineer at Compair Holman in Camborne. Having spent 25 years overseas, he brings a lifetime of experience in the mining equipment industry and has previously held senior global operational and product marketing roles with Sandvik AB and Robit Oy. On returning to the UK, David also spent several years working in the Mergers and Acquisitions team at PwC in London. David is a Chartered Mechanical Engineer and has an MBA from the University of Florida.
Bryony Halliday
CMGA Director
I grew up on the Lizard Peninsula and studied Applied Geology at Plymouth University graduating in 2015. I started my career in 2015 working on private and commercial sites all over the UK in site investigation and geotechnical in-situ and laboratory analysis. I came back to Cornwall in 2018 to take on a consultancy role at Wheal Jane covering geotechnical, mining and contaminated land projects. I have since worked my way up and have been the Consultancy Manager since 2021. I am particularly passionate about site investigation and the variety of methods involved. There was little information provided about this part of the sector when I was starting my career. I have since tried to help where I can through being a STEM Ambassador, mentoring and providing work experience opportunities. I hope that that the CMGA will further support people no matter what stage they are at in their careers.
James Strongman
CMGA Director
James is Technical Director at Petrolab Ltd. He has been with the company since 2001, starting as a junior petrographer under the supervision of Petrolab’s founder, Dr Alan Bromley and subsequently purchasing the company in 2006. During his 20+ years with the company he has gained a wide spectrum of experience in the analysis of materials ranging from concrete to precious and rare earth metals found in electronic scrap. His specialist field is, however, metalliferous ores, and he has developed a broad knowledge for the importance and application of mineralogy to mineral processing problems.
