Geo-Resources Strategic Sector Strengthening Project

Status - Underway

The Geo-Resources Strategic Sector Strengthening project supports the provisioning of the geo-resources (with a spotlight on critical minerals) and materials required for the energy transition and sustainable development.

The project aims to enable the growth of a self-sustaining cluster body, which will coordinate activities to support the development of a thriving and resilient Geo-Resources Sector that is a global-leader in sustainable and responsible geo-resources management. The sector has an important role to play in the achievement of Good Growth in Cornwall and Isles of Scilly, including embedding Good Growth Principles within the +100 members of the Cornwall Mining Alliance, and sharing knowledge and practices internally and externally for the achievement of Good Growth.

The project is partnered with the Cornish Chamber of Mines and Minerals, and Cornwall Mining Alliance, and it is supported by many local enterprises.

Through a series of commissioned studies and workshops, the project will consolidate critical information for Good Growth on the sector, develop a roadmap for sustainable sector growth, and transfer knowledge to key stakeholders to support data-driven decision-making. The project is structured around three work packages: Voice, Business Development, and Data, Information & Innovation.

This project is funded (£960k) by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. Cornwall Council has been chosen by Government  as a Lead Authority for the fund and is responsible for monitoring the progress of projects funded though the UK Shared Prosperity Fund in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
